We all need and deserve compassion, yet the person we can be hardest on is often ourselves. This can be especially true when we are caring for others, since we feel the focus should be on them and not on ourself.
Practising self-compassion can help us relax our harsh inner critic and reconnect us to our natural resources of empathy and kindness. It can help us to bear difficult situations with more patience and inner strength, leading to more resilience and self-confidence. We also discover that by taking care of ourselves in this way we are more capable of caring compassionately for others without depleting our own energy.
This programme will introduce the theory and some simple practices of self-compassion. You are then welcome to join our regular monthly gatherings where we can check in with how our practise is progressing, talk about where we’re getting stuck, and support each other to make the practise of self-compassion part of our everyday experience of caring for ourselves and for others.
How does it work?
• Begin with the 3-week foundation course (dates shown below), which presents the fundamental understandings and practice of self-compassion.
• After completing this introduction you can join our monthly self-compassion gatherings to connect with the community, reflect on our own journey, clarify questions and practise together.
• You are also welcome to join our weekly self-compassion guided practice on Sunday evenings, 19.00 – 19.40.
This programme is offered in collaboration with The Meditation Cafe.
